Install Tomatoro as a PWA on Any Device
Tomatoro is a Progressive Web App. That means you can install it like a native app — without the App Store or Play Store — and it lives on your home screen or dock with its own icon.
Why install it?
Three concrete wins:
- One tap to open instead of finding the tab or typing the URL.
- Standalone window without browser chrome, so the timer fills the screen and there's nowhere to accidentally click off to.
- Works offline for the core timer (you still need a connection to log in or sync to the cloud).
iOS (iPhone / iPad)
- Open Tomatoro in Safari (not Chrome — iOS only allows Safari to install PWAs).
- Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow).
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Confirm the name and tap Add.
The Tomatoro icon now lives on your home screen. Tap it to launch in a standalone window.
Android (Chrome, Edge, Firefox)
- Open Tomatoro in your browser.
- Look for an Install prompt in the address bar, or open the menu (three dots) and tap Install app or Add to Home Screen.
- Confirm.
The icon shows up in your app drawer alongside native apps.
Desktop (macOS, Windows, Linux)
- Open Tomatoro in Chrome, Edge, or any Chromium-based browser.
- Click the install icon at the right side of the address bar (looks like a monitor with a down arrow) — or open the menu and pick Install Tomatoro.
- Confirm.
Tomatoro now opens in its own window, with its own icon in your Dock / taskbar.
Troubleshooting
- "Add to Home Screen" missing on iOS: make sure you're in Safari, not Chrome or another browser.
- No install prompt on Android Chrome: the prompt only appears after you've visited the site at least once and the browser thinks you're engaged. Try opening Tomatoro, using the timer for a minute, then checking the menu again.
- Desktop install icon missing: it appears in the address bar of Chromium-based browsers. Firefox doesn't currently offer desktop PWA installation.
